2025 Healthy Living lecture series begins June 3

The IJͼ will host the 15th annual Healthy Living lecture series starting on June 3. The free series offers a variety of presentations by Alaska medical specialists and experts.
The lectures are presented by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and are open to the public. Lectures will be at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.
The presentations are coordinated and hosted by Michael Powers, former chief executive officer at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. They will be livestreamed on the events page and made available as videos on the summer sessions website within two weeks of the live event.
Lectures in the Healthy Living series include:
- June 3 – “Normal Aging or Early Dementia,” Ron Martino, psychiatrist and neurologist
- June 10 – “Meds and Life in Balance,” Karen Miller, director, Denali Pharmacy; Jane LeBlond, clinical pharmacist
- June 17 – “Advances in Minimally Invasive Surgery: Faster Recovery and Better Outcomes,” Abe Tsigonis, surgeon
- June 24 – “FHP’s Blueprint for Services,” Stephen Heffington, chief medical director, and Kari Burrell, chief strategy officer, Foundation Health Partners
- July 8 – “Modern Approaches to Chronic Pain,” Chris Gay, interventional pain management physician
- July 15 – “AI and Earlier Detection of Cardiovascular Disease,” Romel Wrenn, cardiologist
- July 22 – “Heart Attacks and Aging: Know the Signs, Protect Your Life,” Sriharsha Gowtham, internal medicine physician
- July 29 – “How to Starve Cancer,” Scott Luper, naturopathic physician
- Aug. 5 – “The 30 Minute Health Transformation: Tips and Benefits for a Daily Exercise Routine,” Stewart Kerr, orthopedist
- Aug. 12 – “AI for Healthcare in Alaska: Where Are We and Where Are We Heading?” Arghya Kusum Das, assistant professor of computer science, UAF
