Week’s events: Nicky Eiseman, daily exercise, Indigenizing research, jazz

IJͼ Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here’s what’s happening during the week of Aug. 4-10:

  • On Monday, Aug. 4, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series will honor Nicky Eiseman, whose long service to the Fairbanks community includes storytelling, teaching, community activism and a commitment to social justice and local politics. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Stewart Kerr, orthopedist, presenting “The 30 Minute Health Transformation: Tips and Benefits for a Daily Exercise Routine.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Jessica Black, UAF’s associate vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education, discussing “Indigenizing and Decolonizing Research.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 7, the Music in the Garden concert series will showcase Diamond Fuller at 6 p.m. and the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
