Arctic Leadership Lecture Series

The Arctic Leadership Lecture Series offers a unique blend of academic rigor and public engagement. Offered as PS F493/693 Arctic Leadership: Theory and Praxis in the 21st Century, this course invites students and community members alike to explore critical aspects of leadership in the Arctic.

The course is available for undergraduate and graduate students, with both in-person and online options. Undergraduate students can also choose an Honors section, offered for both online and in-person delivery. Community members may attend the lectures for free or enroll as non-degree-seeking students to participate fully in the course.

Lectures are held in the Schaible Auditorium every Thursday from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM AKST (open to public). Classroom discussions continue from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM AKST (students only).

Spring 2025 Speaker Schedule

Each lecture is part of the PS F493/693 course curriculum and explores leadership in the Arctic from different perspectives.
Students enrolled in the course will engage in deeper classroom discussions following the lectures, while community members can participate as audience members.

Dr. Brandon Boylan
Dr. Glenn Wright
Dr. Lovecraft is a Professor of Political Science at UAF and the Director of the Center for Arctic Policy Studies. Her research explores power dynamics in social-ecological systems, with publications in Arctic and Marine Policy, among others. She has served as a Fulbright Research Scholar and a member of the U.S. National Academies Polar Research Board, and currently leads a National Science Foundation grant focused on sustainable communities in Arctic Alaska.
Dr. Boylan is a Professor of Political Science at UAF and the Director of Arctic and Northern Studies. His research focuses on international security, political violence, terrorism, and ethnic conflict, with publications in prestigious journals such as Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Nations and Nationalism. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Commerce, and is actively involved in Model United Nations and Model Arctic Council.
Dr. Wright is a Professor of Political Science at UAS and the Statewide Coordinator of the Senator Ted Stevens State Legislative Internship Program. His research and teaching focus on Alaska politics, public policy, and state governance. Dr. Wright has extensive experience in legislative affairs, working closely with state institutions and fostering student engagement in state politics through internships and hands-on learning experiences.
