Every October, the English Department hosts the Dead Writers event, where literary icons rise from the grave for one eerie night of performances, costumes, and prizes. This year, the 33rd Annual Dead Writers Event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Goldie’s AK, with doors opening at 6pm and the show starting at 7pm.
Tickets are sold at the door. $20 for general admission, $10 for UAF students with ID. 21+ only, no exceptions.
We invite you to step into the shoes of a famous deceased author and bring their words to life! Here’s how to get involved:
Pick a deceased writer whose work you admire.
Come in full costume as that author—the more creative, the better!
Select a brief excerpt from their work to perform (no longer than 5 minutes).
If you’re up for the challenge, in this year’s frightfully fun lineup.
Even if you don’t want to perform, join us as an audience member for a night of literary thrills! There will be ghostly readings, ghoulish costumes, and plenty of prizes, including:

Performers receive FREE entry—just show up in full costume! Spectators are welcome to attend and enjoy the spooky fun.
